Groundhog Day is about a TV weatherman named Phil Connors played by Bill Murray. Phil has to live the same day over and over until he learns about love and how to live life.
Now, this is where the movie gets really bad.
1) The repetitveness of the movie is way overdone. I mean, how many times do I have to see Bill Murray wake up, take a shower and report on the groundhog? I’d rather lick spilled milk off the floor than watch this movie. Not only is the movie repetitive, the networks are being repetitive by showing it over and over. Don’t they have anything better to put on TV such as baseball?
2) The biggest knock on this film obviously has to be the predictability. My first grade nephew could have told me how the movie was going to end 30 minutes after it began.
3) There are also problems with a few scenes in the movie. There is the scene that is repeated over and over again where Bill Murray wakes up and then smashes the clock. Why couldn’t he just turn the damn station instead of teaching kids how to turn off an alarm clock in a quick way.
I was left hanging about the movie. I want to know what happens when he rides it out to stay awake until 6 am. Does he magically begin rising from bed when it hits 6 am when at 5:59 am he was still awake?
Also, who put the curse on Bill Murray? The damn groundhog? Some voodoo witch? That part was never explained in the movie.
4) What is the movie trying to convey to kids and adults back in the early 90’s and for anyone who watches it today? Your life is going nowhere so go ahead and jump off the top of the clock tower, go ahead and rob an armored truck full of money, go ahead and electrocute yourself with a toaster while taking a bath and go ahead and drive off the cliff in a burning car! I’d rather jump off the Golden Gate bridge than do these things.
5) This seemed more like a damn Christmas movie than a Groundhog day movie. Hopefully the networks can get a clue and play it once every December so that it can save our sanity!
