Entertainment, Las Vegas, No Boundaries

Las Vegas, No Boundaries! By Ralph Famiglietta, Jr.
I relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada from New York in 2000 and prior to my move to the South West I had traveled to Europe on several occasions during my tenure with a corporation based in Manhattan. My residency as a New Yorker never really sparked any lengthy conversations during my visits to London, Barcelona or Cologne however that was about to change.
The world was still in shock following the 9-11 attacks and my flight to Europe left the United States on 9-15, one of the very first flights out of the country.
First stop was brief stay in Amsterdam. Following a very long flight and some jet lag, I went outside of my hotel and took a seat at the outdoor café to take in the sights and enjoy a cup of coffee. There was a Cathedral across the plaza and it had mounds of flowers and signs to mark that tragic event and show support for America. During that crisp afternoon I’ll never forget the people of Amsterdam quietly strolling by my table while the church bells tolled ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ it was one of the most touching moments that I have ever experienced.
Next stop was Germany – if you want a great experience, attend Oktoberfest in Munich. In walking distance from my quaint hotel was a very large park where crowds of people followed the sounds of music, the smell of food and their quest for Germen beer!
Large buildings are erected every year by the major German breweries and thousands of people are seated at long wooden tables enjoying their beer and food as the music plays while everyone celebrates. Most of these large buildings can not accommodate all of the participants so there are public areas set up outside. Here too the people are seated at long wooden picnic style tables and I had to navigate through the crowds to find a seat. Some locals made feel right at home as they waved to me and made some room at their table. I squeezed in between two rather large gentlemen and looked for a waiter.
Initially I felt kind of lost with everyone speaking German until I ordered up a stein of beer and a mega pretzel from the very large waitress dressed in traditional Bavarian attire. Suddenly there was a break in the German because the lady seated opposite me picked up on my American accent. She politely shared her condolences about 9-11 and then to change the mood she asked where I was from. When I mentioned that I lived in Las Vegas she erupted in her thick German accent …“Las Vegas! Oh we loved it there – we lost our money….but who cares!”
For the next hour I became the Vegas Ambassador in residence at that table sharing as much as I knew about the best shows on the Las Vegas strip, how to play table games, buffets, video poker and the fountains in front of the Ballagio!
That’s the best part of living in Vegas; wherever you go everyone loves Sin City.
This got my wife and me thinking so we developed a line of Las Vegas Fun Stuff designs on our website www.JustUsPromos.com. That’s the least I could do for some of the very nice people I have met along the way who love Las Vegas as much as we do.
