The information superhighway has featured freebies ever since our former Vice President “invented” it a few years back. In reality there has probably never been a more profitable time to be a freebies searcher. Obviously, tracking down freebies is fun. Who doesn’t enjoy getting freestuff mailed to them such as jelly beans, cookies, mouthwash samples, cosmetics, vouchers and similiar freebies simply by filling out a (usually) short survey? If you already have a website or just want one, you may find free web hosting companies, free web blog hosts like Blavenet and free webmaster resources such as software, backgrounds, free polls, graphics and free content like articles and RSS for your site, hit counters and many other freebies you usually just need to go to one of the top search engines like Yahoo and type in “free something” and what you want will usually come up. Obviously, though, there is a certain catch. We all know that you almost never get something for nothing. When you apply for a free offer you obviously have to fill out a form with your mailing information and sometimes a personal survey too. That is the catch. There is no such thing as a free lunch. The ones that offer these freebies use them so that you will remember who gave it to you and then buy something from them later. They also will of course have your personal data from the freebie form and will thus have some kind of crude profile about you. You can expect to certainly get related offers addressed to you and it is doubtful that these will also be free. If you apply for free samples like cosmetics for sake of discussion, you will probably recieve product brochures, catalogs or some other type of correspondence that relates to cosmetics. This is not as a rule a bad thing, though, as many people appreciate being updated regarding products that they are interested in. It therefore is often a win-win situation. But in rare cases, you may get flooded with too much of a good thing. This has definately happened to me. I have some advice in this regard, however. Get a freebie email account from excite.com or Hotmail or some other similiar provider and use that when you fill in the freebie forms. This will prevent your principle email address from getting flooded with too much mail. Your physical address? Well you have to use that if you are requesting free samples. But postal mail is not getting any cheaper and junk mail mostly comes the electronic route these days. Most firms will not be able to afford to send you much junk via snail mail.
